Web 2.0 and Suffolk Wave

Suffolk Wave is fantastic! I have used it a number of times and often recommend it for my patrons! Being an audiobook fan, it is easy to find titles that I am interested in listening to. A recent title I downloaded and listened to is Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World by Mark Kurlansky. It is a fascinating book, and the audio version is great.

thoughts on Web 2.0

I loved learning all the different web 2.0 technologies! Some I was very familiar with and some were new, but it was a great learning expereince. I enjoyed the systematic way of trying each activity and becoming familiar with it. I think it was a great thing for the library to encourage all the staff to learn and push our comfort zones out a bit. I think it will make the library as a whole more receptive to new ideas and changes in the technology landscape.

Thanks for the opportunity for learning all these new things and I hope to use more of them on a regular basis.

Web 2.0 and Google docs

Google docs is very useful, and I have used it in the past for a number of applications. One of the applications is when I am working on a document for my department head (in a different building)and she is able to insert any changes that may be required.

Web 2.0 and Wiki

The number of wikis is mind-boggling...as with the other activities it is an overwhelming amount of information. Using my topic of digital photographry though I was able to focus and find valid information that was specific to my interests. Interestingly the pages on Wikipedia have statements: This article needs additional citations for verification. What this actually means to me is that people interested in this topic, have not submitted published third party material, but the information is good enough for me.

I did a web search and came across this wiki for photographyhttp://www.techniphoto.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page , it has been just started so it seems fairly limited.

I think that staff and patrons would benefit from a library wiki. Applications could include local community information, library information, and program information.

Web 2.0 continued learning!

I used technoratie to look for new feeds and sure enough I found the following feed for a digital photography school feed...looks like it will be useful to me and I have subscribed to the feed and I hope to learn some more about my camera and digital photography in general!

This is not an easy way to read the information and I dont think the patrons will be excited to come back.

If the links work then patrons (myself included) will be excited to subscribe to the feeds.

Web 2.0 -- Youtube

Youtube can be pretty amazing or it can be a huge time waster! I have wasted alot of time looking at funny videos that have been sent to me. Today I used it to look for useful information. I recently got a new camera, and searched for photography videos. This is an example of the power of the internet being used to harness information. I am pretty excited to go take a look at the lessons and learn from others who have posted videos with photography information!

Library Thing is another awesome bit of electronic technology. I love it but have to remmeber to use it to record my books; read, plan to read and otherwise! I started using it 2 years ago, and forgot about it! Take a look.

Back from Prague!

The Prague trip was amazing and awesome! Everything went perfectly; flights had no problems, the hotel was great; really really nice. The weather was mostly warm and sunny. We enjoyed visiting with Holley and saw her alot; she was our personal tour guide for most of the week and showed us all over town and the surrounding area. We were going all day everyday and were exhausted at the end of the week. It was totally a fantastic trip!

Springtime in Prague

Friday is the day we go to Prague for a week, I think I have every current Prague and Czech Republic travel book in Suffolk County! I am so looking forward to visiting with my daughter; she has been over there for the spring semester! I haven't seen her since January!, a long time for us.

my first blog post

Wow I finally "created" my first blog post...I am not sure I want my thoughts and musings to be forever in cyber space...I will try to be coherent and cogent, but I cant promise that it will always be as such.

I love most of the new technology, even though I am barely literate in a fraction of its uses.  These MMS Web 2.o exercises will certainly help get me up to speed in the various facets of the new knowledge.
